Islamabad’s Top tier Hospitals and laboratories are paying less than a billion rupee in taxes, while making billions from providing costly medical services to the Capital’s masses, hence evading taxes. This was stated by Federal Finance Minister, Shaukat Tarin on the floor of National Assembly.

The tax evasion comes amid Governments efforts to increase tax revenue and reduce any slippages.

Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin told the National Assembly that private hospitals / clinics and laboratories in the capital paid an income tax of Rs. 836 million and Rs. 449 million in sales taxes in fiscal year 2021.

The low level of taxes is a big issue due to the poor performance of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), as it does not know how much money the private hospital mafia has raised due to the coronavirus.
According to reports, at least 79% of the country’s private hospitals do not pay taxes on their profits because they are not officially registered with the country’s tax system.
