Morris Garages (MG), has received the greenfield status in Pakistan under the Auto Development Policy (ADP) 2016-21, as per the statement from the company. The Greenfield status will allow the company to open a CKD assembly and manufacturing plant in Pakistan. The news was confirmed by the official of the Engineering Development Council (EDB).
Morris Garage has started its operations in Pakistan in partnership with JW Motors and SAIC (SAC is MG’s Chinese parent company). Company in its first launch had introduced MG HS crossover to fetch market share in increasing SUV segment of the country. The arrival of the company was mainly facilitated by Javid Afridi, who is the main shareholder of MG Motors Pakistan.
MG Motors has plans to introduce various models in Pakistan which include the 1.5 ZS crossover, ZS EV, Extender pickup and the RX8 midsize 7-seater.
Pakistan’s Auto Policy is expiring in mid-2021 and there exists uncertainty as to whether new Auto Policy will give any additional benefits to new companies. Hence, in order to work with certainty, MG Motors opted to apply for Greenfield Status under existing Auto Policy ADP 2016-21
Given the overwhelming response MG Motors received for its SUV, it is evident that any new model will also receive a good response.
