The Pakistani Communications Authority (PTA) has officially authorized South Korean electronics giant Samsung to begin manufacturing mobile devices in the country through its local partner Lucky Motor Corporation Ltd.
On Tuesday, the PTA granted Lucky Motors a Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) permit to set up an assembly plant in Karachi to manufacture Korean mobile devices.
To date, PTA has granted about 25 MDM licenses for the production of mobile devices (2G / 3G / 4G) to foreign and domestic companies.
Domestic mobile devices are also exported and have a significant impact on the reduction of imports of mobile devices and accessories.
Samsung’s addition to the list of companies that have opened their own assembly lines in the country is welcoming as there are already existing players, including Airlink, which makes major Chinese mobile phone brands such as Huawei.
