Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has issued Mobile Device Manufacturing (MDM) Regulations, 2021.The regulations objective is to encourage local production of mobile and hand held devices in Pakistan.
The regulations further state that all Mobile devices to be manufactured as per ITU Telecommunication Standardisation Sector (ITU-T) technical standards. While all Finished/manufactured devices produced locally are required to display the tag “Manufactured in Pakistan”.
The PTA will evaluate all applications on merit for allowing manufacturing mobile devices in Pakistan. During the evaluation, PTA will give weightage to the experience of applicant’s management, technical competence, key members of staff and local participation in the business, and technical viability of the applicant’s business plan for mobile device manufacturing will determine whether authorization is to be granted to the applicant.
PTA will give authorization to manufacture for 10 years.
