The government has fixed the With Holding tax at 7.5% for Non-Filer consumers for monthly bills of Rs. 25,000/- and above. In this regard, The Lahore Electric Supplies Company (Lesco) has announced on its website a new tax (withholding tax) that will be levied on consumers from July 1, 2021.
“Dear Customer! The Pakistani government has introduced a 7.5% tax on electricity bills in excess of Rs 25,000 per month. If you are tax filer, immediately send your reference number and ID to 8118 “,
The FBR recently issued a 2021 Income Tax ordinance under which the government lowered the monthly electricity bill threshold for WHT exemption. The threshold was reduced from Rs. 75,000 to 25,000 per month for nonactive taxpayers.
There are many local consumers across the country who have no job or business, are nonfilers and pay bills in excess of Rs 25,000 a month in summers.
Previously, the With Holding Tax was levied on those electricity consumers where Monthly Bill exceeded Rs.75,000
