The government has decided to increase the price of electricity to consumers by 1.95 rupees per unit.
Sources in the energy department said that the current price for electricity is 13.35 rupees per unit, however, after the new increase, the price will be 15.30 per unit. The sources said the increase in the electricity price would impose a burden of 200 billion rupees on consumers annually.
A notice of electricity price increase will be issued after approval by the National Electricity and Energy Authority (NEPRA).
According to sources, the increase in electricity prices will not apply to those consumers who consume low units of Electricity.
