the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has placed local tax officials In large retail stores, who are not integrated into the point of sale (POS) system to track their sales for tax purposes. The action has been taken in light of Section 40B of the Sales Tax Act 1990.
FBR has developed Operational Terms (TORs) to integrate retailers into the point of sale system.
Some Tier-I Retail Stores are reluctant to integrate into the POS system, despite repeated reminders of FBR, according to sources.
To deal with these Retail stores, FBR began sending IR employees to their shops/stores to check sales.
The presence of Revenue officials in these locations forces dealers to register with the FBR POS system.
To date, 10,767 outlets have been integrated into the POS billing system.
The government has encouraged retailers by providing tax benefits for electronic transactions in the new budget for 2021-2022.
