The total federal government debt haS grown to PKR 365.37 trillion from Rs 329.97 trillion in the same period last year, up by 11% or PKR 35.40 trillion.
As per data from the State Bank of Pakistan, the federal government’s domestic debt increased to PKR 245.02 trillion at the end of the first seven months of 2020, up from Rs 217 trillion last year, marking an increase of 12. 4% or 27.10 trillion. rupees.
At the end of January-2021, the federal government’s external debt stood at PKR 120.35 trillion, up from PKR 112.02 trillion in the same period last year, an increase of PKR 832 billion, or 7.42 percent.
Despite the overall rise in creditworthiness, SBP data show that there has been a sharp increase in long-term domestic debt, which totalled about PKR 193 trillion, up from PKR 167.48 trillion at the end of January-2020, marking an increase of PKR 67 billion, or 15.63%.
Long-term debt has increased by PKR 26.20 trillion over the year. While short-term domestic debt rose by just PKR 89 billion to Rs 51.36 trillion at the end of January-2021 , up from PKR 50.47 trillion last year, marking an increase of 1.76 percent. This was partly the extension of the loan term.
