To ensure a reasonable reduction in sugar prices, the government decided to revert the sales tax at the previous rate until November 30 this year.
The decision was taken at a meeting in Islamabad chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan to review the prices of commodities in the country.
It was also agreed at the meeting that the ministries of industry and finance would consider future sugar needs and imports.
The prime minister called on high-ranking officials to set food prices correctly and ensure that they are respected.
It was also decided to take tough measures against careless officials. In order to determine a suitable price for edible oil, it was decided to develop a framework for the system.
The Prime Minister also instructed the prompt completion of the necessary legislation on the exchange of information for day-to-day use.
