In order to curtail Electricity theft and line losses, the Government is planning to introduce ‘Electricity-Meterless Smart Metering System’. In this regard, the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCOE) has sought a proposal from the Ministry of Information Technology/Telecommunication and the Power Division. During a meeting of CCOE, headed by Asad Umar, Power Division briefed the committee on the latest circular debt situation as well as strategies to arrest the rising debt. It was informed that a management plan was being effectively implemented to minimise the circular debt buildup.

Meeting was also attended by Special Assistant to PM on Petroleum Nadeem Babar, Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, and Adviser to PM on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood were also present in the meeting.

The Cabinet committee discussed the proposal by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication regarding the Electricity-Meterless Smart Metering System. The CCOE directed the Power Division and IT ministry to hold further diligence on the proposed design and finalize a joint proposal for onward submission to the CCoE.

During the meeting, the Petroleum Division proposed setting up a committee to streamline the process for industrial gas connections to Balochistan. The CCoE approved the proposed committee and directed that its recommendations be submitted to CCoE within one month.
