Dr. Reza Baqir, Governor State Bank of Pakistan,addressed Overseas Pakistanis via a webinar organized by the Pakistan Embassy in Washington D.C. where he expressed that State Bank of Pakistan is fully committed to facilitating overseas Pakistanis to remain financially connected with their homeland.

Dr. Asad M. Khan, Ambassador of Pakistan to the U.S., hosted the webinar where he highlighted that the Government attaches highest importance to serving the Pakistani American diaspora, who play a crucial role in Pakistan’s national development. He further said that the Government has taken a number of steps to facilitate Pakistanis living abroad.

Governor SBP apprised the audience over significant measures taken by the State Bank before and after the COVID-19 pandemic which helped address the stability of the Pakistan’s economy.

Highlighting the steps taken by SBP for facilitating overseas Pakistanis, Dr. Baqir said that SBP is focusing on facilitating them by providing a secure and efficient financial system through digital means. He outlined SBP’s commitment to a digital financial ecosystem, that would feature efficient and secure payment and banking systems in the country.

He particularly mentioned that SBP is working for facilitation of home remittances, increasing investment in Pakistani capital markets, industry, real estate and fulfilling the life style needs of non-resident Pakistanis.

A detailed presentation was also given by Deputy Governor SBP, Dr. Murtaza Syed ON Roshan Digital Accounts which provides an opportunity to open bank accounts in Pakistan from abroad entirely through digital means without visiting a bank in Pakistan or an Embassy or a Consulate office.

The webinar was attended by members of the Pakistani American community and representatives of leading community organizations and businesses from varied areas of the US.
