Pakistani Ambassador to Italy Jauhar Saleem said that Italian companies want to invest in various sectors of Pakistan and that these investments will strengthen economic relations between the two countries.

Speaking to the media on Friday, he said that Italian companies are currently investing in sectors such as food, steel, leather, textiles, tourism, information technology and the automotive industry.

Salim praised the role of the Italian government, the embassy and the private sector in providing technical assistance and technology transfer to Pakistan, especially in the export-oriented leather and textile sector.

He noted that in the past, Italian investments were mainly concentrated in the hydrocarbon sector.

He added that the Italian Embassy is working to build a more diversified investment portfolio and has identified priority sectors for Pakistan to invest in efforts to increase the bilateral investment portfolio at a sustainable pace.

He noted that remittances from workers sent from Italy to Pakistan increased by 92% in August 2021 compared to the same month last year, making Italy the bulk remitting country from Europe.

The ambassador also mentioned that Business delegation of 40 Pakistani businessmen from the leather sector would visit Italy in the coming week to explore opportunities.
