Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has instructed the Ministry of Planning to draft a comprehensive five-year plan and a national economic agenda, establishing a clear long-term economic roadmap. The Ministry of Planning has been entrusted with the formation of various working groups to craft the upcoming five-year plan spanning from the fiscal year 2023-24 to 2028-29. Additionally, the ministry has been assigned the crucial responsibility of developing a national economic agenda geared towards economic revitalization.
Within this framework, the Ministry of Planning is tasked with the consolidation and harmonization of diverse initiatives, including the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Green Pakistan, Vision 2035, and the 5Es strategy (Exports, Environment & Climate Change, Equity, and Empowerment Framework). This document will be an integral part of the forthcoming five-year plan.
Furthermore, the ministry is mandated to devise a plan aimed at enhancing the connectivity of Gwadar and addressing obstacles hindering infrastructure improvements in the region. The connectivity of Gwadar holds significant importance, especially as the Planning Commission’s Central Development Working Party (CDWP) is set to review, for the third time, the revised cost of the Gwadar International Airport, estimated at Rs60 billion.
