Pakistan’s trade deficit increased by 30.56% to $ 27.49 billion in July’2020-May’2021as compared to $ 21.054 billion in July’2019-May’2020, according to the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Trade data show that the country’s imports remained elevated at USD 50.048 billion in the period July’2020-May’2021 compared to USD 40,849 billion in the same period of last fiscal year. period July-May 2019–20, recording 22.52% growth.
The country’s exports grew by meagre 13.97%, remaining at $ 22.56 billion in 11MFY2021, compared to $ 19.795 billion in 11MFY2020.
Pakistan’s trade deficit widened to an unstable level of 149.49 percent to $ 3.645 billion in May 2021, compared to $ 1.461 billion in May 2020.
According to PBS, on a monthly basis country’s exports rose 18.48 percent in May 2021 to $ 1.654 billion from $ 1.396 billion in May 2020.
Imports into the country remained at $ 5.299 billion in May 2021, compared to $ 2.857 billion in May 2020, an increase of 85.47 percent.
The trade deficit increased by 19.86 percent to $ 3.645 billion in May 2021, compared to $ 3.041 billion in April 2021.
Pakistan’s exports fell 25.46 percent to $ 1.654 billion in May 2021 from $ 2.219 billion in April 2021.
Imports into the country remained at $ 5.299 billion in May 2021, compared to $ 5.260 billion in April 2021, an increase of 0.74 percent.
