Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) announced March 2021 figures where National CPI Inflation came at 9.1% YoY. The inflation is 0.4% more than the previous month.
Average inflation during 9MFY21 was 8.3% YoY (verses 11.5% in 9MFY20).
Food index registered an increase of 1.8% MoM with Non-Perishable Foods (weight of 29.6%) increasing by 1.6% MoM and Perishable Foods (weight in CPI 4.99%) increasing by 3.3% MoM.
Significant inflation was observed in the prices of Eggs, Fruit, Potatoes and Chicken prices. Among other heads, Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Fuels Index (weight in CPI 23.63%) had the most impact on inflation with decrease of 1.7% MoM due to decrease in electricity price driven by fuel cost adjustment.
Going on wards, Inflation is expected to remain in double digits for the period April – June 2021 due to low base effect, high food prices and energy price increase. Average Inflation for FY2021 is likely to be around 9%
