The federal Government of PTI and provincial Government of Sindh are in discussion to set minimum support price for the upcoming wheat crop. However, no concensus can be reached as Sindh Government Rmeained adamant over Wheat Support Price of PKR 2,000/Tons as compared to Federal Government Proposed figure of PKR 1,785 /Ton. Current Wheat Support price is at PKR 1,600/Ton while Sindh Government is pushing to raise this price by atleast 25%.
In this regard, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh who is Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance, held a virtual meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah to discuss the realistic wheat support price crop for FY2021.
The meeting was also attended by National Food Security & Research Syed Fakhar Imam, along with finance and national food security secretaries..
Dr. Hafeez Sheikh has asked the Sindh Chief Miniser to look “at a holistic picture to determine the minimum wheat support price, keeping in view its long-term financial implications”.
He stressed for a mutually agreed and one wheat support price across the country to ensure benefit to both producers and consumers.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed the finance advisor to sit with the Sindh CM and resolve the support price issue.
