The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) increased by 0.27% in the week ending May 7, 2023. This was mainly due to an increase in the price of wheat, which rose by 2.8%.
The shortage of wheat is being faced by flour mills due to lower supply from the government. News reports suggest that 144 flour mills in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have shut down, and the shortage is expected to continue for at least another week.
Rising Food prices across the country is expected to lead to Increase in Inflation to 38 percent in the month of May-2023.
