Retail sugar prices have reached record high level of PKR 200 per kilogram (KG), with the ex-factory price for sugar standing at Rs 175, while in the wholesale market, sugar is available at 180 rupees per unit.
Sugar prices have reached this mark in many other cities as well.
According to the retailers, this hike in prices is attributed to rising transportation costs that have increased the cost of production significantly.
An increase in petrol prices has a direct impact on basic items in Pakistan.
The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group inched up by 0.54% WoW during the week ended August 31, 2023.
The most significant increase was observed in the prices of food items, with sugar prices rising by 7.17%
