Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Pakistan’s largest University, has launched online Portal for the Virtual Teacher Training Academy at the Lahore Regional Education Center in Pakistan.
The portal was developed in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the non-profit organization ALIGHT, Pakistan.
The university’s vice president, Professor Dr. Zia al-Qayyum, gave a speech at the portal’s inauguration on Tuesday and said the initiative would help remove physical barriers to professional growth for teachers.
The main guest of the ceremony, Punjab’s Education Minister, Raja Rashid Hafiz, expressed the hope that the portal will benefit teachers in remote areas by providing them with advanced educational skills and innovative content knowledge.
He also praised AIOU’s efforts to advance education and digitize the system.
VC described the portal as:
A learning management system that includes content, high quality videos, learning activities, and an assessment and feedback policy to achieve standard learning outcomes for teachers across the country, especially in remote areas.
He announced that AIOU will be fully digitalized by July so that Students from remote areas with no or poorly connected internet can take advantage of offline mode.
Education Secretary of Punjab Waqas Ali Mahmood and Dean of the College of Education, Professor Dr. Nasir Mahmood, Senior Education Adviser at JICA II, Abid Gill, Dr. Shafqat Ali from National Commission for Human Development, Vice President of Pakistani ALIGHT Party Kamran Iftikhar Lone, Director of Coordination AIOU, Raja Omar Younus and Dr. Zahid Majid were also present at the occasion.
