Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) in a major step to counter COVID19 in the country, has reduced the price of remdesivir by PKR 1,629 bringing the price down to PKR 9,244.
Remdesivir is the first and only approved treatment for Covid-19. It has proved effective against the novel corona virus however, it doesn’t cure the disease in all cases.
DRAP issued the price reduction notice on Monday citing the revised price of antiviral drug at Rs9,244 across the country.
The regulatory authority warned that strict legal action will be taken against those who are selling the drug at higher prices.
In May-2020, US pharmaceutical company Gilead had allowed Pakistan to produce the antiviral drug in the country. Pakistani Firms AGP Pharma and Ferozesons Laboratories are engaged in manufacturing and trading of the medicine
