The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said the latest Doppler radar has been installed in Karachi and that it will start operations before upcoming monsoon season for the most recent forecast, which will take several days.
This was announced by the Director of the Department of Meteorology, Sardar Sarfaraz, at an event organized on the occasion of World Meteorological Day on March 23 at the Karachi Meteorological Office, which was attended by officials and staff of the Department of Meteorology, former chief meteorologists. and the general public.
He added that the Japanese engineers responsible for installing the radar had to return to Japan due to the deteriorating situation of the corona virus in Pakistan, but he expected the radar to work until the rains.
The current analog radar system already makes three-day weather forecasts, which will be extended to seven days after the new doppler radar is activated.
