The government has finally allowed private companies to import the coronavirus vaccine without fixing a price cap for selling it on the local market.
However, only reputable pharmaceutical companies are allowed to import registered vaccines, and prices will be set when the vaccine becomes available internationally.
Currently, the vaccine is not in any international market as most vaccines are sold through mutual agreements between countries or donated to the international coalition ‘COVAX’, which has pledged to provide vaccines to 20% of Pakistan’s population.
Despite this, some companies have contacted the Drug Control Administration of Pakistan (DRAP), stating that they can administer the vaccine and have also demanded that it be marketed.
The Cabinet has previously approved the permission of private companies to import vaccines, and it will closely monitor the DRAP vaccination process and keep a record of every purchase, and we will set a price when the vaccine becomes available in the global markets.
