Aftab ur Rehman Rana, the Managing Director of the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), expressed the government’s strong commitment to elevating tourism as a pivotal industry for the national economy. He revealed that the tourism and hospitality sector currently contributes 3.5 percent to the GDP and engages approximately 6.5 million people, either directly or indirectly. Regrettably, there is limited awareness and investment in sustainable, eco-friendly practices within the industry.
Rana highlighted the collaborative efforts between the federal government, provincial authorities, and private partners to promote tourism and ensure sustainable ecotourism models. He stressed the importance of increasing awareness campaigns and engaging stakeholders to curb unwarranted interventions.
Pakistan, with its diverse landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and a history dating back 9,000 years, holds immense significance for international tourists. PTDC has implemented various initiatives to provide comprehensive facilities to international visitors, attracting a growing number of tourists to explore and enjoy Pakistan’s unique journey.
