Dr. Reza Baqer, State Bank of Pakistan Governor said on Sunday that the local business community should be appreciated for building an international airport on self help basis, which has improved the country’s image.
He made a speech at a ceremony held in his honor after a visit to Sialkot International Airport. Mian Naeem Javid, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SIALKOT International Airport Limited (SIAL) presided over the ceremony, while relevant officials also attended the ceremony.
Dr. Baqer said that if the business community can create a standard international airport, they can also create a bank for small and medium businesses.
He pledged to establish a National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) kiosk at the airport and remove the requirement for all Directors to sign to open a SIAL account at any bank.
Moreover, Mian Naeem Javed highlighted the challenges faced by SIAL and asked the SBP Governor to mention the achievements of Sialkot’s business community at home and abroad whenever the opportunity arises.
Mian Naeem also demanded Prime Minister (Prime Minister) Imran Khan for a three-year tax exemption for SIAL to compensate for financial losses caused by Covid-19, in addition to granting Sialkot export zone status.
