The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), in conjunction with various global exchanges and organizations, celebrated World Investor Week (WIW) 2023 through a gong ceremony held at the PSX Trading Hall, as per a press release issued by the domestic equity market.

The WIW, spearheaded by the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), of which PSX is an Affiliate Exchange, is scheduled to run from October 2 to 8, 2023. PSX has been organizing this event for the third consecutive year.

The week-long activities of World Investor Week are designed to promote financial literacy and raise awareness about investor education and protection. The aim is to encourage financial inclusion and provide learning opportunities for investors.

The gong ceremony was attended by representatives from the SECP, leading academic institutions, professional bodies, and securities brokers, among others. It marked the official commencement of World Investor Week 2023 and the opening of the trading day.

Mr. Farrukh Khan, MD & CEO of PSX, welcomed the guests and expressed satisfaction that various stakeholders were participating in World Investor Week 2023. He thanked the SECP for their leadership in promoting financial literacy and investor awareness.

Mr. Khan emphasized PSX’s commitment to disseminating financial education through various means, including in-person sessions, webinars, courses, and workshops. PSX also utilizes digital platforms such as its investor education portal, virtual trading application, financial glossary, and social media channels to promote financial education and awareness.

The event highlighted the importance of understanding and investing in the stock market, especially for young individuals who can start early and maximize investment returns over time. Efforts to impart investor education and awareness are expected to benefit investors and strengthen the economy.

Mr. Abdul Rehman Warraich, Commissioner of the Securities Market Division at SECP, spoke about the significance of investor education and awareness in achieving financial inclusion, investor protection, and investor confidence. SECP plans to establish a Fund with contributions from various regulated institutions to promote investor education and awareness.

He emphasized the importance of transparency, good governance in the corporate sector, and the need to enhance insurance penetration for the middle and lower-middle classes.

Mr. Shoaib Javed Hussain, CEO of State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan, stressed the importance of fostering a savings culture to secure a financially sound and secure future. State Life Insurance remains committed to supporting Pakistan’s capital markets and offering protection and savings products for the country’s citizens.
