Karachi is all set to have its dedicated IT Park at the cost of Rs 31 billion, which will employ some 210 companies and 8,400 people.
“The facility is part of the government’s strategy to develop IT zones and software parks, and to create purpose-built technology software parks in major cities across the country,” a senior Ministry of Information Technology official told a news outlet.
The property includes a multi-storey office building. The park covers an area of 106,449 square meters and has eight above-ground floors and three basements.
It provides a platform for local industry and universities to build synergies. It also attracts international business partnerships and global IT companies that are becoming major tenants and investors. According to him, the park will improve the provision of jobs and related infrastructure for IT companies and services supported by IT services, as well as accelerate the growth of the IT industry. The project will also help improve the formation of IT clusters, increase export revenues and introduce Pakistani IT innovations and services to government and international clients.
The building of the IT park will have offices, a kindergarten, services, parking, etc. It will have an ICT system, security equipment and a data center. He added: “The management of the IT park will receive operational support after the completion of the project, two years after its completion.”
He said that a special technology zone has recently been established in Islamabad for the development of Pakistan’s IT sector. The current government is actively working to optimize the IT and services industry, focusing on the needs of both domestic and international markets.
The government wants to establish software technology parks in cities and towns across the country, he said, adding that the Pakistani IT Ministry’s Software Export Division is working to establish software technology parks in Quetta, Gwadar, Faisalabad. , Bannu, Swat and Mardan and Hyderabad.
He said these areas of IT, software and technology parks will foster efficient and cost-effective collaboration, digitalization and entrepreneurship in R&D and innovation to meet today’s needs.
