China has emerged as a significant investor in Pakistan’s digital sector, fostering successful collaborations and partnerships that contribute to the nation’s digital advancement. We anticipate China’s leadership role in digital investments within Pakistan,” stated Zulfiqar Ali, the Director General of Pakistan Regulatory Moderation Initiative at the Board of Investment (BOI).
During a panel discussion session at the UN Asia-Pacific Innovation Forum held as part of the 23rd China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) this week, Zulfiqar Ali outlined Pakistan’s national strategies for digital development. He emphasized the crucial role of foreign direct investment (FDI) in driving Pakistan’s digital transformation. According to China Economic Net (CEN), Pakistan is actively embracing the digital age and making substantial efforts to reshape its economy and society.
Acknowledging the significance of digital development, Pakistan has formulated comprehensive strategies and policies to harness the potential of technology. These initiatives span various sectors, including infrastructure, education, governance, and entrepreneurship, with the goal of using technology to boost economic growth and enhance the quality of life for its citizens.
One noteworthy project is the Digital Economy Enhancement Project, valued at $78 million, which aims to enhance the government’s capacity to provide digitally-enabled public services to citizens and businesses. A key component of this initiative is the Pakistan Business Portal, designed as a one-stop shop for businesses to carry out all their functions digitally in Pakistan without the need to physically visit any office.
Zulfiqar Ali anticipates the implementation of this single-window platform next year, which will further enhance the digital investment environment in Pakistan. The successful joint ventures and collaborations between Pakistani and Chinese companies in the digital sector have resulted in the development of cutting-edge technologies, innovative solutions, and the expansion of digital services throughout Pakistan.
